To-morrow the first game of the first round of the Boys’ Brigade Soccer Cup competition will be played and flag games will be played on alternate Saturdays. Games for the Smith Cup (which has been presented by Mr R. Smith, president of the Southland Association) are to be played on the other Saturdays. Owing to the Ist Invercargill Company not being able to raise a team, the remaining games in the flag competition will be altered and no team will have a bye. The draw for the first cup game tomorrow is as follows:— First Church A v St. Andrew’s A; Central Methodist v First Church B; Church of Christ v St. Andrew’s B.

Life Boy games will be played as usual at 11 a.m.. Life Boys should support their own teams and turn up on time.

George Walker defeated Whiskers Blake before a crowded house at Stratford to-night by two falls to one. Walker had a decided advantage, but the bout was a good one. Blake secured a submission fall with an ingenious combination of the leg cradle and an armbar. Walker secured two falls with his favourite dump, the last in the fifth round. CYCLING SATURDAY’S ROAD RACE. The handicaps have been declared by Mr E. Smith for the Invercargill Amateur Cycling Club’s road race on Saturday. The course is from Mary street to Woodlands and return, a distance of 22 miles, to start at 1.45 p.m. Riders are asked to be on their marks promptly so as to avoid delay. RIFLE SHOOTING INVERCARGILL CLUB. The Invercargill Defence Miniature Rifle Club held its weekly shoot at the Drill Hall on Wednesday evening when the second round of the championships was fired. The highest scores off the rifle were: S. Wall 80, R. C. Anderson 80, E. R. Service 78, A. Pomeroy 78. The following is a list of scores with handicaps:—

' CITY GUARDS CLUB. Last night the City Guards Defence Rifle Club fired the third stage, of the

championship and the second stage of the B grade handicap competition at the Drill Hall miniature range, 26 members competing. The shooting was of a high standard, A. Ford and R. Adams (a first-year shot) securing the possible 80 and E. J. McLauchlan and W. McChesney 78’s, while 77’s were put on by L. Adams, J. Padget, G. Nicol, J. Storrie and J. Buttolph. Mason 65, J. Henry 64. CROQUET RUGBY PARK CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Rugby Park Croquet Club Miss Middleton presided over a good attendance of members. The report showed that great progress had been made during the year; the greens were in good condition, the new motor lawn-mower had proved its worth, and the greenkeeper had kept the greens in good order. Appreciation of the splendid work done by Mr Clark was voiced by those present. The expenses were rather heavy, nevertheless the club had a credit balance. The Board of Control has suspended Jack Doyle’s license for six months and has decided that Doyle and his mother should each be paid £5 weekly for six months from Doyle’s £3OOO purse, the balance being forfeited. Many complaints were being received, said Councillor R. Semple, M.P.; at the Wellington City Council meeting last week, in regard to the quality of the city milk (reports the Post). Councillor W. H. Bennett (chairman of the Milk Committee) said that under the old system the delivery was made in the morning, and that had led to complaints that the milk was not received in time for breakfast. Now the delivery was made the night before, and the complaints were not nearly so numerous.
