BALCLUTHA SCHOOL
EX-PUPILS’ ASSOCIATION. A committee meeting of the Southland branch of the Balclutha School Ex-Pupils’ Association was held last evening when the president, Mr A. V. Hope, presided over a fair attendance of members.
The president stated that owing to the poor response from ex-pupils the annual reunion last year had to be dropped. At the request of several ex-pupils the committee had been called together to discuss the holding of a reunion this year and it was open to the meeting to say whether they would have such a gathering. After a discussion it was decided that a reunion be held this year on August 9, the i_-’nion to take the form of a social evening to be preceded by the annual meeting. Those present accounted for a prospeut’ve attendance of 40 ex-pupils and friends and agreed to see as many ex-pupils and exClutha district residents as possible to ensure a successful gathering. It was reported that the Dunedin branch had three gatherings yearly and these were well attended. The names of several ex-pupils, who have recently come to Southland, were handed to the secretary and it was stressed that all new residents’ names should be handed to the secretary as soon as they became known to members so that a complete register could be kept of all ex-pupils living in Southland. The president assured all newcomers that a very warm welcome awaited them on linking up with the association. All present at the meeting assured the president of their whole-hearted support.
