JERSEY BREEDERS
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Southland Jersey Breeders’ Cattle Club, which was held on Friday afternoon, was attended by about 30 members. The president, Mr R. Clark, welcomed those present and called upon them to carry a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr R. Gibb and Mr W. A. Gray. The report (previously published) and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of the president, and the following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr A. McFayden, Kamahi; vice-president, Dr. Ritchie Crawford, Invercargill; committee, Messrs R. Clark (Menzies Ferry), M. Cramer (Gore), S. Day (Lady Barkly), R. Russell (Waikiwi), D. Cameron (Edendale), E. Clent (South Invercargill) and E. McKenzie (Clifton), Mr W. A. Archer was nominated for re-election to the position of hon. secretary and treasurer, but declined nomination. He was persuaded to continue the secretarial duties until an appointment could be made. It was agreed that an annual sale should be held early in November, the date to be fixed later. A motion of sympathy with Mr John McTaggart, of Wyndham Valley, who has been laid aside by sickness for some considerable time, was carried.
The president and Dr. Crawford referred in appreciative terms to the valuable work done by the secretary, Mr Archer, and on the motion of Dr. Crawford an honorarium of five guineas was voted him. The meeting nominated Messrs R Russell first choice and John Hellyer second choice for Jersey judges for the Gore A. and P. Association’s Summer Show.
