BOWLS
GORE CLUB.
ANNUAL REPORT.
The thirty-fifth annual report of the Gore Bowling Club is as follows;— The green was opened for play on Wednesday, the sth October, 1932, the weather conditions were favourable and there was a good muster of visitors and members. Due chiefly to the energy and enthusiasm displayed by our president, the late Mr Keith Richards, the club commenced the season with a largely increased membership. This new blood consisted mostly of young players, who entered into the game with enthusiasm, displayed good promise and they are a decided acquisition to the club. The green keeper carried out his duties satisfactorily. Owing, however, to certain unfortunate circumstances many bare patches made their appearance on the green towards the end of the season, which spoilt the usual even playing surface. The green keeper with the green rangers (Messrs Gee and Robertson) have been carefully tending the playing area and it is fully expected, given good conditions, that there will be a great improvement in the green during the next season. The club entered the usual A and B teams for the district competitions, but neither were successful in gaining premier honours, although both teams did fairly well. The results of the various competitions arranged for members are as follows: Singles championship: H. Barnet Ist; 'J. Richards runner-up. Colts singles: T. Mcßobbie Ist; H. Simpson runner-up. Handicap doubles: H. Barnet (skip) and N. Robertson (lead) Ist F. Murray (skip) and A. Mitchell (lead) 2nd. Champion pairs: H. Barnet (skip) and S. Preece (lead) winners. The club was represented in the following competitions by: Shield Rink: H. Graham (skip), H. Barnet (3rd); S. Preece (2nd); D. Harvey (lead). Southland Champion Pairs: H. Barnet (skip) and S. Preece (lead). Champion of Champions Singles: H. Barnet. Eastern District Competitions by: Rinks; T. Brown (skip), W. Scobie (3rd); W. Gee (2nd); H. Robertson (lead). Pairs: K. Richards (skip); G. S. Finlayson (lead). Singles: J. Richards. The only win the club had in the foregoing competitions was in the Eastern District Pairs. In the Champion of Champion singles, however, H. Barnet put up a great fight, gaining 2nd place in a play off after tying with the winner. The club was represented in the match Southland versus Otago by W. Scobie and G. S. Finlayson. Early in the season a rink comprising H. Graham (skip); H. Barnet (3rd); S. Preece (2nd) and F. Murray (lead) won the Murihiku Cup from the holders, the Woodlands Club, and held it for some time against various challengers. At the Liter end of the season, the club sustained an irreparable loss in the sudden death on the bowling green, of our esteemed president (Mr Keith Richards). Two other old members, Messrs E. Frobarth and James White, also passed away during the year. The presence of these players will be greatly missed. During the season pairs competitions, by challenge, for silver badges and silver buttons were arranged. _ These competitions .proved interesting and many keenly contested games were played. These competitions should-not be overlooked in the incoming season. In conclusion we desire to thank those ladies who kindly officiated at afternoon tea; their services were greatly appreciated. We also desire to thank those members who helped to make the season a success by running the various competitions and in other. ways assisted the committee.
