COLLAPSES ON WAY TO PATIENT. (Per United Press Association.) Stratford, July 13. An inquest was held at Tangarakau on the late Dr C. J. Smith who collapsed and died on his way to attend a patient on Tuesday evening. A postmortem conducted by Dr Steven disclosed that the deceased suffered from heart failure and a verdict was returned accordingly.

F. J. Northcott said he went to the surgery and asked the doctor to attend his small son. While on the way Dr Smith complained of giddiness. He rested for a while, but later went on. Subsequently he collapsed and became unconscious, but soon recovered. He insisted on going on. Witness sent for the district nurse who arrived as Dr Smith collapsed again and died.

Evidence was given by the nurse and Mrs Smith, who said her husband had enjoyed general good health. Sergeant Kelly paid a tribute to Nurse Birss and also to the deceased, the Coroner endorsing his remarks.
