RIVERSDALE NOTES

(From. Our Correspondent.) The euchre tourney held in the Waipounamu School on Thursday was well attended. In the ladies Mrs Matthews was the successful player while Mr J. Harvey won the men’s prize. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs Hickey in the ladies and Mr A. McAllan junior in the men. The prizes for the evening were kindly donated by Mr and Mrs Iggo. The evening closed with the dispensing of supper. The spell of exceptionally hard frosts that the district was experiencing last week broke on Friday, and several light showers of rain have since fallen. Owing to the hockey tournament at Dipton on Saturday last, no games were played in the Northern competition. At the fortnightly euchre tourney held at Kameka last Thursday there was also a good attendance of enthusiasts, some fifty players participating. In the ladies, Miss A. McKenzie was

first and Mr J. Davis secured the premier place in the men. Mrs McEwen and Mr E. Watt were second. At the conclusion of the tourney, the usual short but enjoyable dance was held. Mrs Bennett of Orepuki has been the guest of her sister, Mrs H. Mac Kay. A meeting of the young people was held in Mr Green’s office on Monday night. Mr Geo. Robinson presided over the following:—Messrs J. McMath, E. Watt, E. Hall, E. Eadie, D. Lynch, K. McKecknie, R. White, L. Kelly, W. O’Connor, R. Stewart and A. Green. The meeting had been called to discuss the holding of a ball in aid of the Young People’s Funds. Messrs A. Green and R. Stewart were elected secretaries and Mr G. Robinson’s office of chairman was confirmed. The ball will be called the “Prosperity Ball.” It was decided to secure the services of the Tom Katz dance band for the evening. If the expense will not be too great, a set supper will be provided. Owing to the fact that no ladies were present it was decided to hold another meeting next Monday night to finalize arrangements.
