Miss Eunita Day, of Invercargill, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr and Mrs S. Day, Lady Barkly. Miss Sheila Looney, who has been spending a holiday with Mrs P. J. Kean, South Hillend, has returned to Invercargill. Mr and Mrs J. Kilby, Mary street, are visiting Edendale. Miss V. Cooney, of Limehills, was the ■ week-end guest of Mrs J. Dixon, Queen Street. . . Mrs A. Sheed, New River Road, • spent a few days in Invercargill last week. . Another successful bridge party organized by the social committee of . the Anglican Church was held last . Monday evening. The winners of the I first prizes were Mrs P. A. de la Perrelle and Mr J. de la Perrelle, while the winner of the hidden number prize
was Mr W. Swale. Mr and Mrs L. McKenzie, of Invercargill, who have been the guests of Mrs W. Norman, Forest Hill, have returned home. Mrs J. Banks, Meldrum street, spent a few days at Ohai last week. Mrs Chartes, of Mossburn, was the guest of Mrs G. Cleland, Home street, for a few days last week. Mr and Mrs G. Adams, of Milton, have returned home after spending a holiday with Mrs A. Adams, Eglinton 1 street. At the Fire Brigade euchre tournament held in the Soldiers’ Club rooms , on Tuesday evening last the prizewinners were Mrs M. Reilly and Mr ■ H. Hodges. . ' • At the euchre party held in the Limehills Hall in aid of the Catholic ! Church on Wednesday evening last the winner of the ladies’ prize was Miss ■ A. Swale with Mrs R. Swale second. ■ The winner of the men’s prize was Mr M. Cahill with Mr G. Kettle second. The prize-winners at the St. Thomas’s euchre party held in Hamilton’s Hall on Thursday evening were Miss M.
Cocoran and Mr J. Bourke. Miss Molly Thomson, of Invercargill, spent a few days with Miss Isobel Shand last week. Mr and Mrs H. D. Irving, of Otautau, were the guests of Mrs G. Cleland, Home street, last week. , The monthly meeting of the Womens Christian Temperance Union was held at the president’s residence on the afternoon of Tuesday, 20th inst., when there was a good attendance of members present. It was decided that Miss Douglas, organizer for the Southland district, be asked to visit Winton at the beginning of August when, in addition to addressing other gatherings, she would have an opportunity of speaking at a concert to be held about that time. The resignation of Mrs Collett as cradle roll superintendent was received with regret, the meeting expressing appreciation of the good work she had done. Mrs S. Smith agreed to carry on this work until the end of the year. Papers in recognition of White Ribbon Day were read. Mrs Walker sang the hymn “Speed Away.” As a result of work in meetings and at home, stock-
ings, scarves, and mended garments for distribution to those who are in need were handed in.
