GORE CLOTHING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Correspondent). The annual meeting of the Gore Clothing Club was held on Friday afternoon, the Mayor (Mr A. T. Newman) presiding over an attendance of the following:—Mesdames L. N. Glasson, J. W. Turnbull, J. Ritchie, A. B. Caverhill, A. J. Hawke, R. B. Bannerman, E. C. Smith, F. Graham, J. M. Faitt, T. A. Fleming,. E. Shanks, E. A. Pigeon (secretary), Miss M. MacGibbon and the Rev. C. E. Webb. The chairman moved the adoption of the report (previously published) and the balance sheet. He said that £99 had been received by donations and sales, but the year’s working showed a debit balance of £l4. The year had been probably the most difficult experienced by the club. Applications for assistance had been received from Wyndham, Mataura, Chaslands, Waimea Plains and surrounding districts. In addition many applications came from men who were “on the road” and who required clothes and boots. Unfortunately the club had not been able to help these cases as the funds were fully taken up in dealing with local and district cases. He concluded by thanking all who had helped during the year. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Mrs Glasson suggested that the people of Gore should be asked to put all their discarded clothing into a bag. The contents could be collected at intervals for the club and these donations of goods would greatly assist the club in its efforts to relieve distress. She moved that a request be made on the lines she had suggested. The motion was seconded by Mrs Turnbull and carried. Office-bearers were elected as follows:—Chairman, Mr A. T. Newman; secretary, Mrs E. A. Pigeon.
