BENNETT—McKENZIE. At Waikoikoi on May 31, the wedding of Jean, daughter of Mr and Mrs Alex McKenzie, to Robert, son of Mr Bennett, Conical Hills, was solemnized, the Rev. W. H. Norton officiating. The bride wore a travelling outfit of navy blue crepe de chine with touches of red and fawn, and a hat to match, and she carried a bouquet of golden chrysanthemums, scarlet ixias, maidenhair fem and autumn leaves, with red satin streamers. The bridesmaid was Miss Margaret McKenzie, whose frock was also of blue, and her bouquet was of chrysanthemums, and blue anchuras with autumn leaves and maidenhair fem with blue satin ribbons. Mr John McKenzie attended the bridegroom as best man. After the ceremony the guests attended the wedding breakfast. The two-tiered wedding cake was the gift of Mrs Robertson of Tapanui, who had made and iced it. When the bride and bridegroom left by car for Waipahi, to catch the north express the bride wore a navy blue diagonal tweed coat with fur collar, a navy hat, and a hand bag in fawn and blue to tone with her frock.
On Thursday evening residents of “Koi” and Conical Hills gathered at the residence of the young couple to welcome them home. The evening was spent in dancing and after supper, Mr W. L. G. McKenzie presented to Mr and Mrs R. Bennett, a sum of money from their friends in “Koi” and Conical Hills with which to purchase a suitable gift. Mr R. Bennett thanked all those who had come to their home that night, for their good wishes and their handsome present, and expressed the pleasure felt by his wife and himself at having so many of their friends present in their home. ~
