Mrs Lionel Graham, of Lumsden, who has been staying with her sister-in-law, Mrs H. R. Domigan, Pomona street, has returned home. Mrs G. P. Deal, Waipukcrau, is at present on a visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs W. Gee, Albany street. Mrs J. A. Edwards, Otikerama, has returned from a short visit to Dunedin.
Miss Janet Rogers left last week to spend a holiday at Fairlie. Mr and Mrs T. Fife left for the north last Thursday. Mr Fife will represent the Gore R.S.A. at the annual conference of the N.Z.R.S.A. at Wellington. Mrs F. V. Piper, Albany street, has returned from a short visit to Dunedin. Dr. V. Grater, of the Gore Hospital, left last week to spend a vacation at the West Coast.
Mrs J. Domigan, Oamaru, and formerly of Gore, has been spending a week’s holiday here as the guest of Mrs S. B. Taylor, Ardwick street. Mrs H. Oswin, Rock street, East Gore, entertained at bridge last Wednesday afternoon. Mr and Mrs D. Little left last week to spend a fortnight’s holiday at Riverton. Miss Gwen Gee, Albany street, has returned home from an extended holiday spent in the North Island. Mrs A. E. Boult, Albany street, has returned from a few days spent in Dunedin. Mrs A. N. Mac Gibbon, Mataura, has returned from an extended holiday visit to relatives in the North Island. There were fifteen tables in play at the meeting of the bridge circle of the Women’s Club held on Monday afternoon of last week. Mesdames H. Oswin and Cochrane were responsible for the decorations and afternoon-tea arrangements, and prizes were won by Miss D. Noake, highest score auction; Mrs W. McAra, highest score contract. The members of the Gore Ladies Croquet Club held a very successful card afternoon last Tuesday in the Soldiers’ Club rooms. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames G. McLeod, A. T. Pettigrew, J. Brown, F. Wallis, F. Murray. Prizes for the highest scores were won by Mrs F. G. Parsons (bridge), and Mrs J. Paterson (euchre). Others present were: Mesdames R. W. McCreath, R. Gresham, McDairmid, A large number of members and friends of the Gore Women’s Institute were present at the birthday party which was held in the Gaiety Hall last Thursday evening. Most of those present were in fancy costume and . a jolly evening was spent in dancing competitions and music. At supper the beautiful birthday cake which was made by Mrs R. P. Neale, was cut by the oldest member present, Mrs J. Turnbull, Prizes for the best fancy costumes were won by Mrs J. W. Turnbull “Uncle Ned,” and Miss Smith “Victorian Lady.” Other competition prizes were won by Mrs G. Allison. Mrs O’Sullivan and Mrs J. Martin. A happy evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” by Mrs L. Graham, members joining in the chorus. Amongst those present were: Mesdames J. S. Robbie, C. M, Wilson, G. On Friday afternoon of last week 24 members of the bridge circle of the Southland Women’s Club visited the Gore Club to play a friendly match. The lounge was beautifully decorated with bronze chrysanthemums and autumn foliage. The president, Mrs J. A. Blaikie welcomed the visitors, and later Mrs J. Thomson, on behalf of the Invercargill players, returned thanks for the hospitality extended to them and hoped to have a return visit from the Gore members at an early date. The match resulted in a win by a small margin for the Gore players. The following were the visitors: Mesdames Mervyn Mitchel, A. Jones, W. Quinn, A. Le H. Hoyles, T. Tait, Dougherty, Todd, W.
