STATE LOTTERIES
NEW ZEALAND INTERESTED.
LEGISLATION NEXT SESSION?
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 9.40 p.m.)' Sydney, June 19. The major prizes in the New South Wales State lottery to-day were drawn by Mr Neil McArthur, of Wellington, New Zealand, who is reported to be inquiring into the lottery systems in Australia on behalf of the New Zealand Government.
According to Mr Whiddon, director of the State lottery, the New Zealand Parliament next session will be asked to approve of legislation for the conduct of Government lotteries in the Dominion. It is estimated that upwards of 9000 applications for New South Wales lottery tickets reach Sydney from New Zealand weekly.
NO OFFICIAL STANDING
mr McArthur’S position.
(Per United Press Association.)
Wellington, June 19.
The statement in a Sydney cable that Mr McArthur was inquiring into lottery systems in Australia on behalf of the New Zealand Government was given an emphatic denial in official circles to-night. Any inquiry Mr McArthur was making, was being made purely in a private capacity. His visit to Australia has no official standing so far as the New Zealand Government is concerned.
