LUMSDEN NOTES

THE WEATHER. (From Our Correspondent.) Although half-way through the month of June the weather still continues very open the last few days being more like spring than winter weather. Very little frost has been experienced to date thus allowing farmers to proceed with outdoor work. Golf. Last week a flag match was played by both men and ladies which was won by Mr A. J. Earl who played excellent golf, scarcely making an error in his first round and showing a score of 38. He left the flag at the nineteenth hole. The trophy for the match had been donated to the club by Mr K. Melville in appreciation of the courtesy shown to him on the Lumsden links. The runner-up was Miss Cathie Reidy who also finished up on the nineteenth fairway. Annual Meeting. On Wednesday evening the parishioners of All Saints Church, Lumsden, held their annual meeting at the vicarage when the Rev. E. G. Wilson presided over a large attendance. The report and balance-sheet as read were adopted, the Rev. Wilson congratulating the parishioners on the loyal way in which they had contrived to reduce the liabilities during the past year. Although not yet on the right side of the ledger, by continued efforts there is every prospect of a credit balance being shown at the next annual meeting. The Rev. Wilson said he wished to thank all those who had subscribed so liberally and all who had assisted in the carrying on of the church work. He wished specially to thank the parishioners for their surnort towards the mission fund. The quota for the parish was assured the generous donations proving that the parishioners have the work of the church at heart.

The Rev. G. D. Wilson spoke feelingly of the work done by Mr B. Brady who unfortunately was unable to attend through illness. Mr Brady, during his residence in Lumsden, has held the highest offices possible to be held by a layman—that of lay-reader and Synodsman. Until overtaken by his illness Mr Brady had always been at his post and it was with great regret they learnt that it is necessary for Mr Brady to move from Lumsden. His position in church work will be hard to fill. These remarks were endorsed by the Rev. S. G. Wilson and a minute of appreciation recorded. A motion of sympathy w- also passed with Mr A. Black in the loss he has sustained through the death of his mother.

For some time the subject of heating the church by means other than the oil burners has been talked of among the parishioners so it must have been very gratifying to discover that before the meeting adjourned the price of a fuel heater had been assured. The purchase and installation of the heater was left in the hands of Messrs H. Graham and W. Johnson who stated that the church would be well heated on Sunday next. The following office-bearers were appointed for the ensuing year.—Vicar’s warden, W. Johnson; secretary and treasurer, H. Casson; committee, Messrs H. Graham, A. Black, James Clouston, J. Ashley, F. Thomas, Major Bond, T. P. Dyer, D. McLeod, J. Challis; stipend collector, Mr H. Graham; delegates to Central Committee, Messrs J. Clouston and H. Graham. At the close of the meeting a social hour was spent during which supper was handed round by the ladies. Town Board.
