PLUCKY NURSES

MAN RESCUED FROM LAGOON. (Per United Press Association.) Greymouth, June 15. Making good his escape from the Greymouth Hospital on Monday, a mental inmate headed for a lagoon at the rear of the hospital and plunged into the water, evidently intending suicide. He would have achieved his object but for the courageous action of Sister A. M. Becker and Nurse G. B. O’Connor, who followed immediately and with difficulty rescued the man. Drs Bird and Bennett, honorary medical officers, reported their action to the board, expressing appreciation of the plucky act which was subject to a laudatory resolution at the board s meeting this evening.
