FOOTBALL CLUB’S DANCE.

Under the auspices of the Orepuki Football Club an enjoyable dance was held in the Round Hill Hall on Friday, June 9. Music was supplied by Messrs Bennett (piano), Mumford (accordion), while extras were played by Mr Gregg (Colac), Mr E. Sheehan acted as M.C. Those prfesent included: Mesdames Pollard, Roberts, Roderique, Kitto, Egerton, Whittle, Laughton; Misses G. Pollard (Riverton), Neilson (2), Taylor, Hart (3), Mackie, McFadgen (Riverton), D. Pollard, Roberts, Egerton (Colac), McKenna, Cleaver (Colac), Houlihan (2, Orepuki), Horan (Riverton), Whelan (2, Orepuki), Todd (Riverton), Wolfe (2, Orepuki), E. Wadsworth (Riverton), Lynch. Messrs Bennett, Gregg, Te Au, Dallas, Sheehan, Sorrenson, Smith (2), Neilson Marshal, Aberdeen, Todd, Hayes, Fisher, Egerton, Mumford, Mason, Webb, Latchford, Lennon, F. Smith, Popham, Bone, J. McKenzie, Barnett, Wilson, F. McKenzie, Harding, Purdue, Shaw, Crofts, Lee, Amos. The prize winners of the weekly euchre held at Round Hill on Wednesday, June 7, were. Ladies, Mrs Aberdeen; consolation, Miss P. Neilson; men, Mr Robson (Pahia); consolation, Mr Forsyth. On Friday, June 9, an enjoyable concert and dance in aid of the Sunday school funds was held in the Tihaka hall. Music for the dance was supplied by the “True Time Trio” while Mr J. Blakie acted as M.C.
On Saturday evening the local relief workers held the first of their series of fortnightly euchre and dance in the Drill hall, to raise funds to supply gumboots for relief workers on ditch work, etc. The winners of the euchre were; Ladies, Miss Enid Broomhall (Tihaka), Mr R. Whittle won the men’s. After suppe* was served, a dance was held, music being supplied by Messrs Egerton, McKay and Goodwillie.
A meeting of the committee and players of the local Basketball Club was held on Tuesday, Mrs J. Crengle occupied the chair in the absence of the president, Miss L. Ogren. It was decided to hold a ball in the Drill Hall to raise club funds.
A rather startling occurrence happened at the new company’s gold mine at Round Hill on Friday afternoon when the "tar pot” containing a number of barrels of tar and used for dipping the water race pipes, caught fire. The huge column of rmoke could be seen for miles around.
