RIVERSDALE NOTES

{ EUCHRE TOURNEY. (from Our Correspondent.) The irst of a series of euchre tournies bdng staged by the Waipounamu School Committee was held in the

school buildings on Thursday night. There was an attendance of some 30 players. After a period of interesting and enjoyable play, Mrs Hickey was found to be the successful lady, while in the men Mr P. Fleming had the most points. The consolation prizes went to Mrs J. Clark and Mr R. Simmonds. Mr R. H. Matthews, of Riversdale, kindly denoted the prizes for the

evening. An enjoyable supper was .then handed round and brought an enjoyable evening to a close. Another tourney was held at Kaweku on the same night, there also being a good attendance of enthusiasts. In the ladles, Miss Jones was the successful competitor, with Mrs D. Dunn a close second. Mr T. Downing won the men’s section, while Mr P. Tither,

I senior, was next. A dance was held at the end of the tournament. The members of the Wendon Bible Class held a very successful social in the Wendon Hall on Thursday night, when the Waikaia, Wendonside and Knapdale, as well as the local and Riversdale classes, were strongly repre-* sented. The evening was spent m games and competitions, while several very

much appreciated items were also given. Messrs S. Mac Kay and C. McLay had charge during the evening, and kept the function going with a swing. During the evening interesting and instructive addresses were given by the Rev. Newlands, of Riversdale, and Mr Boyd, of Waikaia.
