RETURNED SOLDIERS
THE GORE ASSOCIATION. At th efortnightly meeting of the executive of the Gore Returned Soldiers’ Association on Tuesday Mr T. Fyfe (president) occupied the chair and the following members were present: Messrs J. A. McDonald, W. D. Shelton R. B. Bannerman, L. Roberts, M. Green, E. J. Columb, A. L. McDowell, S Paterson, A. H. W. Aitken, C. M. Wilson, P. R. Stewart, F. M. Murray and G. L. Gerken (secretary). The hospital visiting sub-committee reported on its visit to sick members during its term of duty, which on this occasion extended over a period of three weeks. On the first Sunday four ex-soldiers were visited at the public hospital and one at his home. On the second Sunday five were visited at the hospital, and on the third Sunday four were visited at the hospital.—The committee was thanked for its report, and Messrs Green and Aitken were appointed a visiting committee for the next term. ... j * One new member was admitted to the association. The secretary reported that the financial membership now stood at 138, as compared with 97 last meeting night and 156 at the corresponding period last year. The committee appointed to report on the advisability of holding a meat drive for the benefit of the unemployed reported on its actions to date. The committee was instructed to make a further report next meeting night. Mr Shelton, convener of the subcommittee appointed to arrange lecturettes in the club rooms, reported that arrangements had been made for three lecturettes as a commencement, and recommended that the first to be delivered by Mr H. McQuillan on his recent visits to the various battlefronts, be given next Tuesday. The secretary of the Dunedin R.S.A. wrote regarding the nomination of Mr J. Tait, Invercargill, as district vicepresident, and stated that his associa* tion was nominating Mr H. L, Paterson for the position—Decided to let the Gore delegate, Mr Fyfe, have a free hand when the matter was brought up at the annual conference. Mr J. Steans, representative for the Gore Association at Tapanui, forwarded a letter from the Town Clerk, Tapanui, acknowledging receipt of £lO for expenditure on unemployed ex-soldiers in that district. The money would be subsidized £ for £.—Received. The general secretary, Wellington, wrote stating that the annual meeting of the Dominion Council will be held in Wellington on June 20. The remits which will be brought up for consideration at the Dominion conference were considered. In most of the cases the delegate was given a free hand. ___
