SCHOOL COMMITTEE

EAST GORE BODY. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the East Gore School Committee was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs A. T. Newman (chairman), D. McDougall (secretary), C. Burrows, S. Smith, W. Trebilcock, W. Rhodes and the headmaster, Mr Park. The secretary was instructed to write to the Education Board advising it that the committee wished to retain the admission registers in the school until after the jubilee celebration, which would take place in June, 1936. The headmaster’s report stated: I have pleasure in reporting that the average roll number for May was 151, boys 76 and girls 75; the average attendance was ‘ 145.2, boys 73.6, girls 71.6, The percentage of attendance was 96. Four of the six-year-old pupils were enrolled at the beginning of the present term. Two pupils removed to other districts. Our present roll number is 152. Word has been received from the Southland Education Board requesting that all completed admission registers be forwarded to the Education Office. As these will all be required at the time of the school jubilee, which takes place shortly, it would be advisable to write to the secretary requesting that the admission registers be retained in the school until after the jubilee celebrations. Miss M. Scott, probationary assistant, left at the end of last term. Her place has been filled by Miss H. McLeod. Cards soliciting donations to the fuel fund were distributed recently and £4 16/has been received and a load of coal promised as the result of the appeal. The school cocoa club has commenced operations for the winter term, and under 4he supervision of Miss Ross some 60 pupils receive a hot cup of cocoa with their lunch daily. Tire football and basketball season is with us again. One team was entered in the senior football competition (Mr R. Hanning coach) and two teams in the basketball competitions (Miss H. McLeod coach). A small clock is required for Standard IV. room, and an electric light globe for the entrance hall. The report was adopted.
