HEDDON BUSH NOTES
W.D.F.U. REPORT. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Heddoti Bush branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in the’ hall on Wednesday evening, June 7. * The president, Mrs R. P. Homer, presided over an attendance of 21 members. After the usual business was conducted the president gave a brief account of the annual meeting of the provincial executive, to which she was a delegate. A full explanation on the preparation of the raw wool, and the requirements for use in making quilts, was also given by the president. The competition: “The best article made from a' sugar bag,” created a great deal of interest and brought forth many useful articles, am,ong which were cushion covers, aprons, mats, stocking bags, etc. The prize, kindly donated by Mrs R. T. Homer, was finally awarded to Miss M. Boyle for a finely worked cushion cover. A demonstration on making wool rugs was given by Miss M. Boyle, which was greatly appreciated, Mrs Quelch returning thanks. Basket-making from reed, loom string and stakes, was illustrated by Mrs D. Manson. On behalf of the branch Miss Boyle thanked her. Another useful demonstration, which was followed with great interest, was given by Miss Cairns on making mats from sugar bags, Mrs D. Manson returning thanks. The roll-call for the next meeting is “A good biscuit recipe.” A competition will also be held for the best plate of scones. After the meeting supper was provided, thus bringing to a close a very enjoyable evening. Football. On Friday afternoon the local school boys journeyed to Gladfield and defeated the latter team by nine points to six. The local boys had much the better of the first spell, adding nine points to nil, chiefly by the strong running of L. Cody. The Gladfield boys showed more combination and were unfortunate in not making a draw at least. After the match afternoon tea was served, thus ending a most enjoyable outing. Euchre. The euchre social in aid of the school and hall funds was held in the hall last Friday evening. These socials continue to be extremely popular. Mrs J. Forde and Mrs Kirkwood tied for first place, the latter eventually winning. Mr A. Shand won the men’s prize. Consolation prizes were awarded to Miss M. Boyle and Mr R. Roberts. Draughts. Enthusiasm among the draughts players continues unabated. Close on twenty members were present at the weekly meeting last Saturday evening. Further games were played in the ladder competition. Full arrangements were made for a match with the Drummond Draughts Club, at Drummond, on Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock.
