(By “Radio.”) Of the 35,000,000 receiving sets installed in homes throughout the world almost half, or 17,000,000. are operated under license, says the Radio Log and Lora. The total population of radio licensing countries is 370,000,000. These nations have one half as many stations as the United States, and onethird of these are operated under- extra monopoly arrangements. The sum for licenses paid totals between £13.000,000 and £14,000,000 annually. There are now 73 countries broadcasting in various parts of the world, and it is supported in the whole, or in part from licenses in 31 of these. A station has been heard on 750 k.c. recently. So far he has not been identified. This stranger is believed to be 7LO Nairobi, Kenya. VK’s are still to be heard. One member reports a good haul last week. DX-ers should persevere each weekend.

WCRW, 1210 k.c., 100 watts, was heard last week. He reached R 5 at one stage. 2SM Sydney has evidently given up collecting stamps, as his card came to hand last week.

“Scribler” (Invercargill) asks the following: (1) Eastern station on 970 k.c. heard at 12.15 a.m. (2) American on 1350 k.c. heard at 5.0 p.m. (3) American on 1220 k.c. heard at 5.10 p.m. (4) Station on 1000 k.c. heard at 4.48 p.m., not WHO-WOC. Answers.—(l) Probably JOBG Masbashi, Japan. (2) KWK St. Louis. (3) WREN, though WCAE has been heard recently at this hour. (4) Your station is very likely XEFJ Monterrey, 100 watts.
