INJURIES PROVE FATAL. (Per United Press Association.) Hamilton, June 12. Benjamin Charles Gentry, aged 22, a farm hand, who was thrown from his bicycle in a collision with a car at Taupiri on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries in hospital yesterday. John Lewis Piercy, aged 23, a farm hand, who sustained serious injuries through falling from his motor cycle at Rukuhai on Saturday, also succumbed to his injuries yesterday. Piercy, who was returning from a holiday with his parents at Wanganui, was riding down Raynes road, Rukuhia, when the machine skidded in loose metal for a distance of 50 feet. DEER STALKER SHOT IN THIGH. (Per United Press Association.) Nelson, June 12. Kenneth Exton, while deerstalking at Wangamoa yesterday, was shot through the thigh by another stalker from a different party, who mistook him for an animal in the scrub. His injuries are not serious. INJURED FOOTBALLERS. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 12. An unusually large number of football accident cases were dealt with at the Christchurch Hospital on Saturday afternoon, when five footballers, representatives of all three codes, were admitted to the wards, while there was a constant stream of injured players to the out-patients’ department. “We lost count of (them,” said an attendant. The worst case was that of G. F. Johnston, a senior Association player, who sustained a compound fracture of the right leg while playing for Nomads against Thistle. RESCUED FROM SURF. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 12. Attired in plus fours, a golf enthusiast on Saturday afternoon dashed into the freezing waters near Cave Rock, Sumner, and rescued a four-year-old girl who was being carried away by the rush of the current into the channel. The child was scrambling on the rocks when it was swept off by a heavy breaker. The cries of other children attracted attention.
