LABOUR PARTY
INVERCARGILL BRANCH. A special general meeting of the Labour Party was held in Everybody’s Hall on Tuesday. Mr W. Connors presided over a fair attendance. The chairman explained the purpose, for calling the meeting and dealt with matters pertaining to the Labour Party constitution. It was resolved to call for nominations for appointment to the executive. The secretary, Mr G. Edwards, declined to accept nomination for the position of secretary and a vote of thanks and appreciation for his past services was carried Messrs Muir and Weir were elected president and vice-president respectively. For the five required on the committee fifteen were nominated and it was decided to adopt preferential voting for the positions. The following were appointed: Messrs G. Edwards, H. Lang, W. Denham, T. O'Byrne and Mrs W. Denham. Members stood in silence for a few minutes as a mark of respect to their late comrade and former vice-president, Mr G. D. Burrows, who had passed away since the last general meeting.
