WOMEN’S DIVISION

MAKAREWA BRANCH. At the monthly meeting of the Makarewa branch of the Women’s Division there was a large attendance of members and Mrs McDowell presided. Motions of sympathy were passed with two members who have recently suffered bereavements. The “roll call” was "a baking hint, some useful hints being submitted by members, after which a short, discussion on H. and J. Smith’s knitting competition took place. A very instructive and interesting talk on home nursing, first aid and various home treatments and remedies was given by Sister Fox, of Lome Hospital, for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Next month’s competition is “Best article made from flour-bag.” . At a special meeting of the branch Mrs Ward, of Lumsden, was present to give a demonstration on dresscutting. Members had the opportunity of cutting any patterns they wished. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Ward, who also acted as judge of a competition, “Something new from something old.” SEAWARD DOWNS BRANCH.

The Seaward Downs branch of the Women’s Division held its monthly meeting on May 3. Mrs J. Dunlop (president) presided over a large attendance of members. The secretary mentioned that £2 4/6 would be sent on to the “MinVtering Fund,” this sum being handed in by Mrs P. Arnott from the proceeds of selling cookery books and Tui’s Annuals. The roll call, sing, say or sixpence pay,” was well responded to. Mrs A. Hillis demonstrated on lamp shades, which proved most interesting. A box of patterns for boys and girls’ clothing was also inspected.
