The commencement of winter was accompanied by very severe weather conditions. As a result of the heavy rainfall creeks were swollen and in several places the road was submergThe weekly euchre tournaments still prove popular there being a good attendance each night. The winners of last week’s tournament were Miss M. Templeton and Mr T. Templeton, the consolation prizes going to Mrs Wilson and Mr E. Kennedy. It was finally decided to run the euchre tournaments to augment the school and the library funds. On the afternoon of Saturday, April 28, the members of the Women’s Institute assembled to farewell a member, Mrs Livingston, who intends leaving the district shortly. An enjoyable social afternoon was spent. At a suitable interval Mrs Fallow, the president, on behalf of the members asked Mrs Livingston to accept an afternoontea tray, at the same time referring, to Mrs Livingston’s loyalty to the institute and expressing regret at losing so valuable a member. These remarks were endorsed by Mrs C. Templeton. Mrs Livingston returned thanks. At the conclusion of the afternoon, Miss 0. Templeton, secretary, on behalf of the Euchre Club, handed -Mrs Livingston a suitably inscribed book, as a token of the respect and esteem in which her late husband, Mr J. Livingston, was held. On Friday afternoon the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was again held at the residence of Mrs C. Templeton, when despite the disagreeable weather Mrs Fallow presided over a good attendance. A competition, “the greatest yield from two seed potatoes,” brought forth a good many entries of splendid potatoes, the winner, Mrs M. Fallow, having 17? lb. Another competition, “the best article from a flourbag,” was well responded to, the winner being Miss M. Templeton, whose entry was a child’s frock. At the meeting it was decided that the birthday of the institute should take the form of a social afternoon, the date being May 27.
