MONEY IN SHOE

UNEMPLOYED MEN'S FUND. SUCCUMBED TO TEMPTATION. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, May 5. An astonishing story of succumbing to an unusual temptation was related in the Police Court when William Easton, Marion Easton, his wife, Robert Pryde Turnbull and Edward Tobin pleaded guilty, the first two to stealing £45, and the others to receiving a portion. The facts related were that Easton, who was unemployed, was cleaning windows for the complainant, and asked for a pair of old shoes, When he returned home, he, his wife and the others found £45 in one shoe, where the complainant had put the notes and forgotten them. All were unemployed and the money was divided. The Magistrate said there were peculiar circumstances and convicted the men and ordered them to come up for sentence if required. The charge against the woman, who is only 18 years of age, was dismissed.
