GENERAL ELECTION

LABOUR PREDICTION. LEADER OF OPPOSITION. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, April 22. A general election in New Zealand within 12 months was predicted by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr H. E. Holland, this morning, when addressing meetings of relief workers. “A year ago I would not have believed it,” he said, “but to-day it is my opinion that within the coming 12 months we will be facing a general election.” He urged the need of organization so that when the time came, whether in three months or 12 months, the Coalition would be swept out of office. Mr Holland said the supreme problem was unemployment and asserted that the people had not been given accurate statistics concerning the number actually workless. A later message states that Mr Holland has cancelled the arrangement for speeches in the North Island next week, having been invited to open the Industrial Exhibition at Dunedin next Saturday, after which he will deliver a series of addresses at Oarnaru, Timaru, Ashburton, Christchurch and Kaiapoi.
