DIMINISHING INCOMES
AMERICAN TAX STATISTICS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.55 p.m.) Washington, Dec. 23. Preliminary income tax statistics for 1931 show an amazing curtailment in incomes. It is reported last year they totalled 13 billion dollars compared with 17 billion in 1930 and 25 billion in 1929. Tax returns listing “speculative profits” totalled only 383,000,000 dollars for 1931 compared with 775,000,000 in 1930 and 2,044,000,000 in 1929.
