The following message, containing seasonal greetings to the citizens of Invercargill, has been handed to the Southland Times by his Worship the Mayor (Mr John Miller): — In extending the season’s greetings to the citizens of Invercargill, I wish to specially thank all the social workers who have assisted me and also everyone who has contributed to the various funds for the amelioration of the trying conditions of the working people during the past year. The conduct of the unemployed has been exemplary. Might I ask all those who suffer as a result of the present economic depression to maintain their faith and hope that better times may prevail during 1933, and to continue to exercise patience, courage and endurance, and thus assist to bring about prosperity to the City of Invercargill and the Province of Southland. With best wishes to all for a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
