JOURNEY BY PLANE
INVERCARGILL TO WELLINGTON. SOUTHLAND COALMINE OWNER. (Per United Press Association) Wellington, November 3. To attend the annual meeting of the Coal Mine Owners’ Federation at Wellington a Southland member made the journey by air. He is Mr W. Excell, managing director of the Wairaki mine and representative of the Southland coal owners. His pilot was his son, Mr G. Excell, an enthusiastic member of the Southland Aero Club. The journey was made in one of the club’s Moths. Excellent flying conditions were encountered until the machine was near Wellington, when it ran into a fairly strong breeze. Stops were made at Dunedin, Timaru, Christchurch and Blenheim. The flyers landed at Rongotai at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, and intend to • leave for the south at 8 o’clock to-morrow morning, s “Travelling by plane from Southland has meant a big saving of time,” Mr Excell jnr., told The Dominion. “Moreover, the total cost as far as the machine is concerned is £lB, which is not more than the cost of land and sea transport for the two of us.”
