WHEAT INDUSTRY
SURPLUS TO SOUTH AFRICA. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Cape Town, November 2. In connection with the wheat crisis, despite the ravages of pests the larger areas have produced a surplus, which, with the carry-over from last year, totals 1,000,000 bags, while the consumption is reduced. Co-operative societies have advanced 17/6 per bag on that stored in elevators, for which the railways' are asking increased charges. The Government has now been requested to make sales below 22/6 illegal and to create a pool to subsidize exports. WINNIPEG PRICES RECOVER. ■Winnipeg, November 2. Bolstered up by light offerings and the export of a million bushels overnight, wheat turned upward on Wednesday, regaining virtually all of Tuesday’s loss with gains of J to li cents.
