TRIPS TO MOON
DOCTOR’S FIRST VENTURE. Berlin, September 15. What Dr Johannes Winkler calls the “preliminary leap on the voyage to the moon” will be taken next week. He will fire a rocket into space into the vicinity of Pillau, on the Frischenehrung, a narrow isthmus on the eastern border of the Danzig Bight. Liquid air will propel the rocket which, is 6ft 6in long. It is expected to achieve a record altitude, and penetrate the stratosphere, being capable of rising six miles in Imin 40sec.
Dr Winkler says that this is the forerunner of larger rockets, capable of carrying a man to the moon in four days. He contends that, by means of the rocket, the moon will be as easily attainable as the United States.
