SAVED FROM BURNING HOME.

(Per United Press Association.)

Wellington, September 26.

Wakened in the early hours by his Alsatian dog barking and knocking against a window, A. Birkett, land agent, of Eastbourne, found his house, which is situated on the Main road, on fire, the house and contents being completely destroyed. Mr Birkett made a quick escape from the burning building and was unable to save anything. He threw a pair of shoes out of the bedroom window, but these later were burned on the ground outside.
