THEFT ADMITTED

SECRETARY COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, September 26. Frederick Deuchar McVay, in the Police Court to-day, admitted that while secretary of the Takapuna Jockey Club he stole £644 belonging to the club. In a statement accused said that he was assistant secretary from 1922 to 1927 when he was appointed secretary. Towards the end of 1928 he got into financial difficulties and found it essential to borrow money. He took the amount required from the club’s funds. Later he found himself more involved and took more money up to June last. In August the auditor began an investigation and the accused then placed the whole position before him.

Accused was committed for sentence, bail being allowed, though, at his request he had been in custody since his arrest last Thursday.
