OLYMPIC GAMES
NURMI’S ENTRY REJECTED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 9.50 p.m.) Los Angeles, July 28. The International Amateur Athletic Federation late on Thursday voted to bar Paavo Nurmi, of Finland, from the Olympic Games and rejected his entry. The question of declaring Nurmi a professional did not enter into the action. The commission merely rejected his entry on what it considered good and sufficient grounds and closed the case. TRAINING PERIOD COMPLETED. NEW ZEALANDERS’ PROSPECTS (Rec. 12.30 a.m.) Los Angeles, July 29. At the virtual conclusion of a hard, determined practice period the Australian Press Association representative in a survey finds that the Australian and New Zealand Olympic participants are generally in good condition with reasonably fair prospects of winning their share of the honours. A. J. Elliot, the New Zealand sprinter, recorded good trials. The chances of Golding (Australia) and S. A. Black (New Zealand) are retarded owing to injuries. They are also facing the strongest opposition but J. E. Lovelock (New Zealand) has an excellent chance of winning the 1500 metres event. J. W. Savidan (New Zealand) is regarded as a remarkable distance man and is •conceded a good chance in the 10,000 metres race.
The New Zealand rowers have the material advantage of long training on a course which is a most unusual one.
