LINKING THE NORTH ISLAND. THE FINAL STEPS. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 14. The Public Works Department is about to undertake the work of linking Arapuni with the other power stations in the North Island. A. contract was let some time ago to supply the material and steel towers to carry the transmission lines by bridging the gap between Arapuni and Stratford. Tire three great generating stations of the North Island will be connected into one huge system. It is hoped to have the link completed by the winter of 1934, when Mangahao and Waikaremoana will have reached their capacity. Arapuni will have a certain amount of spare power available.
