SUPERANNUATION
THE COST OF LIVING BONUS.
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, March 24.
The position of the lower paid superannuitants was raised in the House of Representatives this afternoon when Mr W. Nash (Labour) asked the Prime Minister whether he would advise the superannuitants whose annity was less than £lOO a year and who were entitled to the cost of living bonus, that the circular recently sent to them advising that the bonus would cease at the end of this month would not be made effective until the matter had been considered by Parliament. The Pion. G. W. Forbes said that the cost of living bonus had been granted for six monthly periods up to March 31, 1932. The question whether it should be continued for a further six months would be considered when the report of the National Expenditure Commission was before Cabinet.
Mr P. Fraser said there were a number of hard cases and he asked if the Prime Minister would agree not to make the granting or otherwise of the bonus too rigid. The Prime Minister: The matter will be considered by Cabinet.
