TENNIS MATCH. (From Our Correspondent.) The Balfour district is still in need of a good fall of rain, although there have been frequent showers during the iast few weeks. Farmers who arc heavily stocked view with alarm the approach of winter, as the slow growth of grass all summer has left no surplus of fodder and turnip crops are not up to expectations. The Waikaig tennis team journeyed to Balfour on Saturday afternoon and defeated the home team by nine games, the seta being eight all. Tire following are the detailed scores, with Balfour names placed first: Ladies’ singles: Miss J. Wilson 7, Mrs Stevenson 5; Miss J. Grant 7, Miss lowe 2; Miss Arnott 7, Miss McKay 3; Miss McMath 7, Miss Ruffin 5. Men’s Singles: W. Greer 9, J. Morrison 8; A. Macdonald 7, L. Wells 9; A. Henderson 1, J. Dawson 9; R. Grant 2, J. Scobie, of Dunedin, is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs A. P. Scobie. Miss Dodds, who has been relieving teacher at Glenure, is at present relieving assistant at Balfour, owing to the increased attendance since consolidation took place.
