FURTHER DISMISSALS

HUNTLY MINERS. (Per United Press Association.) Hamilton, January 19. Further dismissal notices totalling 15 were distributed among the miners yesterday at the Glenafton and MacDonald mines. The total for the two mines is now 167. Before the dismissals were made 510 men were employed but after yesterday’s list takes effect there will be only 343. The miners in the district are now averaging only two days’ work per week. It is understood the majority of the men involved in yesterday’s dismissals are residents of Huntly. This will greatly aggravate unemployment in the district. Recently, following the first dismissals, a secret ballot was taken to decide whether the men would go out on strike. The result of the ballot will not be known until after a conference is held with the mineowners shortly.
