Mr and Mrs Kennedy Black returned from the north on Saturday. Mr J. Macdonald left Invercargill by Saturday morning’s express on his way to Wellington.

Miss Catherine Cameron, at present sole teacher at the Ferndale School, has been appointed to a similar position at the Dacre School. Mr C. C. Selby, of Mokotua, has been appointed judge of the pipe music by the Lumsden Caledonian Society for its sports on Wednesday. His Worship the Mayor (Mr John Miller) left Invercargill by last evening’s express en route to Wellington to attend a meeting of the executive of the Municipal Association. Mr J. A. Lindsay, district railway traffic manager at Invercargill, returned by the express on Saturday evening from Wellington, where he attended a conference of traffic managers from all parts of the Dominion. Mrs H. S. Cordery, provincial camp adviser to the Southland Girl Guides Association, returned to Invercargill on Saturday after having been in charge of two county companies of guiders who have just disbanded a week’s camp at Oreti. This morning Mrs Cordery leaves for Waianakarua, near Oamaru, where she will take charge of the provincial camp for the Otago Association. 'Die Rev. Dr. Robert Erwin, of Mansfield Avenue, Christchurch, died suddenly just before midnight on Friday. The deceased was born in Belfast 77 years ago, and was educated at Queen’s University and Assembly College. He was ordained into the Presbyterian ministry in 1883, and arrived in New Zealand in that year to take up the position of assistant minister in charge of the Otahuhu Church, Auckland. Later he went to Christchurch to take over Knox Church, and he was minister there for practically 40 years, resigning his charge in 1922. The deceased was elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly in 1897, and had always been a tower of strength to the church in the Dominion. He was one of the founders of St. Andrew's College, Christchurch, and at the time of his death was chairman of the board of governors. The death occurred at Auckland on Thursday last of Mrs Matthews, widow of the late Dr. J. M. Matthews, of Gore. The deceased lady, who was '5B years old, had been in ill-health for some time, and proceeded to Auckland about two months ago for a holiday and change of climate. She passed away at her daughter’s resiednee. The deceased was married to Dr. Matthews, of Gore, about 30 years ago. During her residence at Gore she took a keen interest in her husband’s work and was much esteemed by his patients. She was a lady of amiable disposition and kindly action, and was noted in the town for her acts of benevolence. Her husband was a victim of the 1918 influenza epidemic. Shortly after she joined in business with Mrs R. Wyber in the management of the Southland Hotel at Gore. In this line she became very popular with patrons and the general public. Mrs Matthews leaves one daughter (Mrs Robinson, of Auckland).
