FORCED OFF COURSE
JAPANESE SHIP AGROUND. (United Press Assn.-—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Manila, January 16. Radio advices received ‘ here state that the Japanese steamer Kowpai Maru, en route from Manila to Geraldtown (Australia) was forced off her course by a heavy gale and went aground on a small island north of Borneo. It is feared that the crew of 39 officers and men will have to abandon the ship, but it is believed tin unnamed vessel is standing by to assist.
