SAMOAN BANANAS

FOSTERING TRADE. One of the advantages the South Island derives from the Maui Pomare service is that shipments of choice bananas arrive direct from Samoa at frequent intervals and the local market is kept well supplied with this choice, wholesome fruit. The shipments also have a steadying effect on prices. If the service is to be maintained, however, the bananas must find a ready market at reasonable prices, otherwise the fruit would be diverted to northern cities where the demand is keener. Local residents, therefore, should show their appreciation of the Maui Pomare service by purchasing Samoan bananas at every opportunity. Samoan bananas are grown under the supervision of the New Zealand Government, which is anxious to foster the industry, and in quality, flavour, and freshness leave nothing to be desired.
