With his face masked, a man attempted to hold up a bus driver in the main street at Birkenhead, Auckland, on Tuesday morning. The man displayed no weapon, but kept his right hand concealed in his coat pocket. By brandishing a heavy waddy and keeping his electric torch focussed on the man’s face, the bus driver was able to keep his would-be assailant at a distance, and gave him no chance of grabbing his money bag.
