HOSPITAL BOARDS

QUESTION OF INCREASED SUBSIDIES.

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, June 25

The question of increasing the subsidies to Hospital Boards to enable people in necessitous circumstances to pay rent and so avoid being turned into the streets in the winter was raised by Mr W. E. Parry who addressed an urgent question to the Prime Minister in the House to-day. Mr Parry claimed that a continuance of the present system might result in trouble, because people would naturally resent being evicted from their homes at this time of the year. Mr Forbes replied that the matter would be taken into consideration when the Budget was presented. Mr Parry: Do you realize the seriousness of the position? Mr Forbes: Yes.
