The Union Company’s Kiwitea was scheduled to clear Westport at 8 p.m. on Saturday for Bluff, where she is due this afternoon. The vessel sails to-morrow morning for Dunedin. The Union Company advises that the Wairuna left Los Angeles on April 27 with Pacific coast cargo for discharge at Auckland,. New Plymouth, Wellington, Napier, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne and Sydney. She is due at Auckland- on May 25. During the past three days two overseas steamers, the Gallic and the Devon, have arrived at Lyttelton from Great Britain in ballast, bringing no cargo at all. No fewer than' five other ships are now on their way out to New Zealand in ballast. They are the Norfolk, from London, the Pakeha from New-castle-on-Tyne, the Taranaki from London, the Zealandic from London, and the Northumberland from Glasgow. One of the latest units of the fleet of large tankers now. building for the British Tanker Company is the 10,300-ton deadweight motor vessel British Strength, launched recently from the yard of Palmers’ Shipbuilding and Iron Company, Hebburn-on-Tyne. This vessel is a single screw ship, and has an extensive equipment of electric auxiliaries, the power for which is supplied by two four-cylinder four-cycle single-act-ing. Crossley trunk-piston Diesels, developing a total of 110 horse-power at 450 revolutions. The Tongariro did not complete loading on Saturday but, weather permitting', she should finish to-day. She sails later for Timaru. The launch Pegasus (W. Thomson, master) left for Stewart Island at one o’clock on Saturday afternoon. The Tamatea sailed for Stewart Island at 1.25 p.m. on Saturday. She returns tomorrow morning and leaves again at 10.15 a.m. on Wednesday.
