VESSELS HELD UP

SPREAD OF TROUBLE FEARED. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) Sydney, January 7. In addition to tba Ormiston and Canberra, the Allara, Chillagoe and Mildura will be held up unless a settlement is reached. It is feared that every ship which signs up a crew under the old system will be laid up. THE DISPUTE SETTLED. (Rec. 7 p.m.) Sydney, January 7. The shipping hold-up has ended. Full crews were obtained for all the vessels, and the Canberra and Ormiston sailed this morning. The secretary of the Seamen’s Union states that the whole trouble was due to the intimidating methods of a shipping clerk who helped to select crews and overeagerness of the men to secure jobs. A full crew was also secured for the Niagara, which sails to-morrow.
