44-HOUR WEEK

NEW SOUTH WALES RAILWAYS. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) Sydney, January 7. The Railway Commissioners in New South Wales announce that the reintroduction by the Government of the 44-hour week on the railways will involve an added expenditure of £475,000 per year. A large number working under Federal awards, which prescribe 48 hours for the working week, will thus receive pay for four hours unworked. It is-anticipated that the deficit on the railways by June 30 will be £4.000,000.
