“A WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENT.” (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 9 p.m.) Canberra, December IS. The acting-Prime Minister, Mr J. E. Fenton, announced to-day that cash subscriptions to the £28,000,000 loan already amounted to £17,173,790 and conversions to £11,393,650, making a total of £28,567, 440, which he described as a wonderful achievement considering that the loan was open for only four weeks. He anticipated that the loan would be oversubscribed by £2,000,000. SIGNIFICANCE OF SUCCESS. (Rec. 12.5 a.m.) London, December 18. The City editor of the Morning Post says that the success of the Australian loan is a real victory for the sober section of the Labour Party. It also strengthens confidence and benefits the whole financial situation. The editorial says that there will be nothing here but unstinted admiration for Australian statesmanship and patriotism upon the achievement of a notable victory.
