SHOT ON PARADE
OFFICER IN INDIA ASSAILANT COMMITS tSUICIDE THE CALCUTTA OUTRAGE (United Tress Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) Delhi, December 9. Captain McClenaghan was shot dead on parade this morning by Gurraj, an Indian lance-corporal of the Punjab Regiment stationed at Lahore. It appears that McClenaghan refused to pass Gurraj in a test while the latter was commanding a squad, replacing him with a sergeant. Enraged at his supercession Gurraj shot dead the sergeant and then McClenaghan. The troops on parade fired at Gurraj, but missed, and Gurraj. turned the rifle on himself, committing suicide. Five young Bengalis have been arrested at Dacca in connection,, it is understood, with the murder of Lieutenant-Colonel Simpson, Inspector-General of Prisons, at Calcutta. Two of the assailants, who shot themselves in yesterday’s outrage, are in a critical condition. Lieutenant-Colonel Simpson was buried with military honours this afternoon.
