EX-STUDENT HONOURED

LINCOLN ARICULTURAL COLLEGE. MR H. A. KNIGHT. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, December 9. Mr H. A. Knight, a member of the Board of Governors of Lincoln College and the first student to be enrolled at the college, has been recommended by the board for the award of the gold medal presented by the Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) for distinguished ex-students. The recommendation was made uganimously by the Board of Governors meeting to-day. Mr Knight has been a successful farmer at Racecourse Hill since his boyhood. He was the. first farmer in Canbury to grow solid straw Tuscan wheat and now over 60 per cent, of the wheat grown in the province is of this variety. He is now a successful breeder of Southdown and English Leicester sheep in which breeds he has valuable studs. He has been a member of the Board of Governors of Lincoln College for many years, being chairman for 11 years. He was chairman of the Malvern County Council for 15 years. He has been chairman of the Board of Directors of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company for the past 11 years. Probably he is best known as the owner of the racehorse Limerick, and in the Sporting world generally, being one of the oldest stewards of the Canterbury Jockey Club.
