PECULIAR, PASTIME

WOMEN ACCOSTED IN STREET.

MAN BROUGHT BEFORE COURT.

(Per United Press Association.)

Auckland, October 18.

The peculiar pastime of James Houghton, aged 48 years, who was charged at the Police Court with assault, was to accost women in the street, tell them a tale about his sister who was trying to reduce her weight, then lift the women up and ask them to lift him up. In one case_ he stepped inside a' woman’s house. When the husband came home the accused bolted.

Remarking that the accused might be a sexual pervert, which suggestion was denied by counsel, the Magistrate, Mr Hunt, remanded him pending inquiries.
