PLEASANT EVENING

ANOTHER SUNDAY SERVICE. TALK BY PASTOR FRETWELL. The closing service of the series of Pleasant Sunday Evenings arranged by the Ministers' Association was held in the Regent Theatre last night when there was a large attendance. The Rev. C. H. Olds conducted the song service while the members of the Central Methodist Church Choir contributed ably to the bright singi/ig and rendered several negro spirituals with telling effect. Mrs MacDonald sang “Have Thine own way Loid.” Pastor Fretwell, of the Church of Christ, spoke upon the subject of “God’s claim to be Master.” The speaker recalled the aim of the previous talks proving that religion was a necessity to every man who had been shown a sinner in the sight of God and who could be helped by Christ alone. God’s claim was seen plainly in His creative work and in His providence throughout history, but the fullest revelation of His claim was shown in Christ. The love of God was the best expression of His sovereignity. The mastery of God was seen in the sphere of revelation, in the sphere of spiritual renewal; and in the sphere of social reconstruction. It meant an open mind to understand the Scripture. It, meant an open vision and an open face. Such things could only be realized in Christ. . " It was announced that the Minister’s Association hoped to arrange for another series of services at some future suitable date.
